What is MSR202-CP Heating Cable?

MSR202-CP is a 20 W/m conductive polymer self-regulating trace heating cable for freeze protection and medium temperature maintenance.

The cable automatically adjusts its heat output in response to the surrounding temperature. When the pipe or surface gets colder, the cable increases heat output. As the temperature rises, the output reduces.

This self-regulating behaviour helps provide controlled heat along the cable length and reduces the risk of overheating or burnout, even where cable sections overlap during installation.

MSR202-CP can be cut to length on site and should be installed with suitable Solco-compatible termination kits, temperature control, fixing tape, insulation and cladding where required.

Rated at 20 W/m at 10°C, making it suitable for commercial trace heating and medium temperature applications.

2

Overlap Protection

Designed to prevent overheating or burnout, even if cable sections overlap during installation.

3

Cut to Length

Can be cut to suit the required pipe run length, helping reduce waste and improve installation flexibility.

Maximum Circuit Length Guide

The table below shows the manufacturer’s maximum circuit length guidance for MSR202-CP at 230Vac, based on start-up temperature and Type C circuit breaker size.

Start-Up Temperature 10A 16A 20A 25A 32A 40A
-20°C 36m 58m 73m 91m 108m 108m
0°C 38m 61m 77m 96m 120m 120m
10°C 43m 68m 85m 106m 126m 126m

Guide only. Circuit length depends on system design, start-up temperature, protective device, cable route, control method and installation conditions. Electrical design and commissioning should be completed by competent persons.

Design and Safety Note

Trace heating cable must be selected, installed, tested and commissioned by competent persons in line with the project specification and relevant standards.

MSR202-CP cable selection is not based on cable output alone. Pipe size, pipe material, insulation thickness, ambient temperature, start-up conditions, controller type, protective devices and maximum circuit length all need to be checked before installation.

How to Apply MSR202-CP Trace Heating Cable

Install MSR202-CP as part of a complete system: pipe check, cable fixing, termination, controller setup, insulation, cladding and final testing.

This is a general installation overview only. Always follow the Solco installation instructions, the trace heating design and competent electrical installation practice.

Check the Pipework

Confirm pipe size, pipe material, service temperature, ambient exposure, insulation thickness and required maintain temperature.

Fix the Cable

Install the heating cable to the pipe as specified, typically as a straight trace unless the design states otherwise.

Terminate and Control

Use suitable Solco-compatible termination kits, junction boxes, sensors and temperature controllers.

Insulate and Test

Apply suitable pipe insulation and cladding where required, then test and commission the full trace heating system.

On plastic pipework, or where improved heat transfer is required by the specification, aluminium foil tape may be used over the heating cable before insulation is fitted. Always check the system design before ordering materials.

MSR202-CP should be treated as part of a full trace heating system, including temperature control, cable termination, fixing accessories, insulation and weather protection where required.

Compare Solco Trace Heating Cable Options

MSR202-CP is suitable for LTHW freeze protection and medium temperature maintenance. For cold/chilled water frost protection or hot water temperature maintenance, another Solco cable route may be more suitable.

Trace Heating, Insulation, Cladding and Jackets Work Together

Trace heating provides heat, insulation slows heat loss, cladding protects the system, and thermal jackets help insulate valves, flanges and fittings.

A trace heating cable should not be treated as a standalone product. Most pipework systems need the cable to be considered alongside pipe insulation, fixing tape, joint sealing, controller selection, warning labels, testing and external protection.

For exposed pipework, outdoor plant areas or locations where insulation may be damaged or weather-exposed, a suitable cladding route or thermal jacket route should also be considered.

Who is MSR202-CP Cable Ideal For?

  • M&E contractors installing trace heating on commercial pipework
  • Lagging contractors coordinating heating cable, insulation and cladding
  • Facilities teams protecting exposed or unheated services
  • Industrial sites requiring medium temperature maintenance
  • Contractors working on LTHW pipework with frost protection requirements
  • Specifiers who need self-regulating trace heating cable with controller and accessory compatibility
