PIB Welding Agent 2.5 L

PIB Welding Agent 2.5 L is a solvent-based product used with PIB (polyisobutylene) insulation sheeting to create sealed, weatherproof joints.

What it's used for

• Joining overlaps and seams in PIB insulation cladding.
• It effectively solvent-welds the PIB, rather than simply acting like a conventional glue.
• Suitable for external pipework insulation where you need a water/weather-resistant finish.
• The 2.5 L size is a commonly supplied pack size.

How it is applied

For Plysolene PIB, the manufacturer's guidance is to apply the welding agent to both surfaces of the overlap with a stiff brush using a circular scrubbing action until the surfaces become tacky. The two surfaces are then pressed together to form the weld.

It's important not to apply too much, as excess solvent can continue dissolving the PIB and potentially cause premature joint failure.

The PIB sheet is wrapped around the existing insulation, with the recommended overlaps, and the welding agent is used to seal the joints. The PIB itself should not be relied upon to hold the insulation in position.
