Rockwool pipe insulation uses stone wool, while Isover pipe insulation uses glass mineral wool. Both provide strong thermal performance and useful fire and acoustic characteristics for HVAC and mechanical services. Rockwool is a dense, robust stone-wool option commonly used across commercial plant and heating systems, while Isover offers lightweight glass-wool sections in longer 1.2m lengths. Neither is automatically better: the right choice depends on service temperature, pipe size, insulation thickness, condensation risk, installation environment and the project specification.

Stone Wool vs Glass Wool: What Is the Difference?
Rockwool and Isover both belong to the wider mineral-wool family, but they are manufactured from different fibre types.
Rockwool: stone wool
Rockwool pipe sections use stone wool. The resulting insulation is relatively dense and robust, which helps explain why stone-wool sections are so familiar in plant rooms, heating systems and commercial mechanical-services installations.
Isover: glass mineral wool
Isover CLIMPIPE sections use glass mineral wool. The sections are lightweight and supplied in 1.2m lengths, which can be convenient for repetitive straight pipe runs.
Which Has Better Thermal Performance?
On typical building-services pipework, the headline difference between the two can be relatively small.
Current ROCKWOOL data gives RockLap H&V Pipe Sections a declared thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK. Isover's current CLIMPIPE Section Alu2 data gives 0.033 W/mK at a 10°C mean temperature.
That small numerical difference should not be used by itself to decide which product is “better”. Thermal conductivity changes with temperature, and real installed performance is also affected by insulation thickness, pipe diameter, joints, supports, compression and workmanship.
In many heating and HVAC applications, using the correct insulation thickness and fitting it properly will matter more than choosing between two mineral-wool products because of a very small difference in headline lambda value.
Which Is Better for Fire Performance?
Fire performance is one of the reasons mineral-wool insulation is widely used across commercial building services.
Current manufacturer information lists RockLap H&V as Euroclass A2-s1,d0 and Isover CLIMPIPE Section Alu2 as Euroclass A2L-s1,d0.
Both therefore offer strong reaction-to-fire performance, but a product classification is not the same thing as the fire resistance of the complete installation.
Pipe penetrations, compartment walls, supports, cladding and fire-stopping systems may all have separate requirements.
Does the 1m vs 1.2m Length Matter?
It can.
The Rockwool pipe insulation supplied by Insulation & More is provided in 1m sections, whereas Isover CLIMPIPE is supplied in 1.2m sections.
On a short plant-room connection this may make very little practical difference. Across a long straight pipe run, however, longer sections can reduce the total number of circumferential joints.
Fewer joints can simplify installation, although good fitting and joint sealing remain more important than section length alone.
What About Chilled Water and Condensation?
This is one area where choosing between Rockwool and Isover may not be the most important decision.
Foil-faced mineral wool can support vapour-control detailing when seams, joints, ends, bends and penetrations are correctly sealed. For below-ambient pipework, however, maintaining an effective vapour barrier becomes critical.
Closed-cell elastomeric insulation is therefore commonly considered for chilled water, refrigeration and other condensation-critical services.

Which Is Better for Higher Temperatures?
Always compare the exact product datasheet, rather than assuming that stone wool or glass wool automatically has a particular temperature limit.
ROCKWOOL currently lists RockLap H&V Pipe Sections for HVAC pipework operating between 0°C and 250°C.
Isover's current CLIMPIPE Section Alu2 technical data states that the product can be considered for continuous service temperatures from 5°C to 500°C, while the aluminium facing should not exceed 80°C.
That does not mean every Isover product can operate at 500°C or every Rockwool product is limited to 250°C. These figures relate to the specific pipe-section products being compared here.

External Pipework: Insulation Is Only Half the System
Whether you choose Rockwool, PAROC or Isover, external pipe insulation usually needs an appropriate protective finish.

So, Is Rockwool or Isover Better?
Neither product is automatically better.
Rockwool is a strong stone-wool option for commercial heating, HVAC and plant-room pipework where robust mineral-wool insulation is required. Isover provides a lightweight glass-mineral-wool alternative, with its 1.2m section length offering a practical advantage on some longer pipe runs.
PAROC also gives contractors another stone-wool option where 1.2m sections are preferred.
For chilled services, exposed outdoor pipework or unusual operating temperatures, the more important decision may actually be the complete insulation system rather than whether the label says Rockwool or Isover.
