What is Aluzinc Pipe Cladding

Aluzinc pipe cladding, also known as Aluzink, Zincalume, or Galvalume, is a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material widely utilized in the construction industry for roofing, cladding, and structural applications. Composed of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon, this double-sided coating is applied through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process, resulting in an attractive spangled silver finish. The thin layer of aluminum oxide that forms on the surface preserves the appearance for an extended period.

With excellent corrosion resistance properties – at least six times that of galvanised sheet, Aluzinc is a mild steel sheet hot dipped continuously with an Aluminium / Zinc coating (at approx. 55% Aluminum 43.4% Zinc) coating weight – 185g per square metre.

Aluzinc pipe cladding and pipe lagging are both used to insulate and protect pipes, but they serve different purposes and are often used together for optimal results.When aluzinc pipe cladding is used with pipe lagging, it provides a comprehensive solution for both insulation and protection.

By combining aluzinc pipe cladding with pipe lagging, the pipes are well insulated and protected from external factors, resulting in improved energy efficiency, extended service life, and reduced maintenance requirements. This combination is particularly beneficial in industrial, commercial, and HVAC applications where temperature control and corrosion resistance are essential.

Strength and Fire Integrity of Aluzinc Pipe Cladding

Aluzinc pipe cladding has been independently tested for strength and fire integrity, proving its resilience in various conditions. In tests simulating pressure equivalent to a person weighing approximately 140 kg (22 stone) standing on 0.4mm thick stucco finish Aluzinc pipe cladding, the material exhibited minimal denting.

Properly specified Aluzinc pipe jacketing can withstand a typical hydrocarbon fire. In tests, Aluzinc clad insulated pipes outperformed stucco aluminum sheet, aluminum foil, PVC, and butyl rubber cladding, providing protection for insulation and pipework for up to 30 minutes in a fire.

Aluzinc pipe cladding is non-combustible, with an AA classification surface, and does not contribute to the spread of fire.
